Seasonal Sexy: Enjoying your Spouse

I know what some of you may be thinking, “Shouldn’t “sexy” be all year round?” But the sad reality is that many couples find themselves neglecting even the “seasonal sexy.” I have coined the term “seasonal sexy” to mean the times a husband or a wife would be intentional about looking their best for a special season or occasion. In this blog, I will explore why physical attraction is an important aspect in keeping your relationship spicy. I will also explore some simple things you can do to keep the “seasonal sexy” going all year long. This will help you to enjoy your spouse.

The principle of enjoying your spouse comes from the wisest man in bible. Solomon writes, “Enjoy life with your beloved wife during all the days of your fleeting life that God has given you on earth during all your fleeting days; for that is your reward in life and in your burdensome work on earth” (Ecc 9:9). Enjoying your spouse is critical for a healthy and successful marriage. I understand that the pandemic has caused many difficulties in relationships, and in some cases, even the death of a spouse. The truth is, because life is short you should be intentional about enjoying your spouse and family, especially on special occasions and during holiday seasons. I have found that the enjoyment level can be dramatically increased when couples bring their “seasonal sexy” back.

So how does one bring their “seasonal sexy” back? The simple and often overlooked answer is that couples should be intentional about their appearance. WAIT!!!!!! Don’t tune me out just yet. I will show you practically and biblically.

Let’s be honest for a moment. Take a moment and think back to when you first met your spouse. You were more than likely attracted to their physical appearance at first glance. You, as well as your spouse to be, were probably in one of your “seasonal sexy” seasons and you didn’t even know it. It was in that season, something caught your eyes.

This “seasonal sexy” season is nothing new. Let’s go back to the beginning in Genesis 2:21-22.

“And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.”

When the woman, Eve, was brought to the man, the first thing that happened was Adam saw her physical appearance and said “Whooooooaaaa,” she shall be called woman (Whooooooaaa is not in the Bible but you get the point). So, because physical appearance played a role when the first couple met each other, physical appearance plays a role in every marriage. I do understand that difference situations (pregnancy, accident, sickness, etc.) may cause one’s appearance to change but I want to challenge you to pay attention to the simple things that are sometimes overlooked, but can contribute to your "seasonal sexy."

Here are some simple things couples can do to help bring the "seasonal sexy" back. Husbands and wives should think about the clothes they wear. Compliment each other. Wives should think about their hair styles. Husbands should be intentional about being well groomed. Both the husband and wife should be intentional at looking their best for each other. This brings out confidence and confidence translate to “sexy.”

This holiday season, take some time to bring some “seasonal sexy” back into your relationship. Seasonal sexy is also an important element for increased intimacy in the bedroom. Enjoy every moment with your spouse.

As an action step, set up a date with your spouse and be intentional about looking your best.
