The Secret to Loving your Spouse Right!
Letās not kid ourselves, everyone needs LOVE but not everyone understands how to give LOVE. The month of February is known to many as the LOVE month and with valentineās day in this month, LOVE is usually in the air. Everyone wants to get it right. Everyone wants to LOVE right. However, the only way to LOVE right is to to LEARN how to Love Godās way. It's possible when you learn the secret that I will share with you in this blog. Keep reading.....
Jesus said in Mark 12:30-31 (NKJV) that the two greatest commandments are these, āyou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.ā .... And the second, like it, is this: āYou shall love your neighbor as yourself.ā There is no other commandment greater than these.ā
Love, love, love. You shall learn to love your spouse as you love yourself. When you have mastered this, you will have mastered LOVING right. It is as simple and as hard as this and I want to help you to get it RIGHT.
In the beginning God ordained marriage between one man and one woman. In order for the husband and wife to experience Godās glory, which I believe is the highest expression of Godās LOVE, they had to learn how to dwell among each other. It is in the dwelling they learned how to love each other. The secret to LOVE right involves learning how to LIVE right.
Real Talk! You canāt truly LOVE your spouse RIGHT if you are not living RIGHT with your spouse.

Romans 5:8 states, āBut God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.ā
To love right calls for action and the actions are analyzed through how are living with your spouseā¦

Letās look at Phil 2:1-4 and I am going to show you how to LIVE right so that you can LOVE right.
1 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,
2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
From this portion of Scripture, there are 3 ways to gauge if you are currently LIVING right.
The 1st gauge is in your level of agreement or like-mindednessā Phil 2:2
The power of agreement. The bible also says, can two walk together unless they agree (Amos 3:3). The higher the agreement level, the stronger the LOVE between a husband and a wife. There must be agreement in the marriage vision, agreement in values and beliefs, agreement in finances, agreement in how to resolve conflicts, agreement to how to raise the kids, etc.
When you are LIVING right in agreement, LOVE flows. Stop trying to LOVE right and start working of LIVING right. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is no agreement and 10 is full agreement, where are you? What is your level of agreement with your spouse? Seasons change but the goal is to work at improvement. You gotta LIVE right to LOVE right. Write down your # from this scale to get your living right gauge at the end.
The 2nd gauge is in your level of selfishness- Phil 2:3a
3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit,
I want to ask you a simple but profound question? How selfish are you? Did you know that Godās love is selfless or agape. Agape, speaks of the most powerful type of love: sacrificial love. Agape love is more than a feelingā Agape love involves faithfulness, commitment, and an act of the will. This is the love that God has for His people and that prompted the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus, for our sins. This is the love you must demonstrate as a husband and a wife to each other. You must choose to love if you desire change in your marriage.
When you are LIVING selfless with your spouse and family, the LOVE will flow out of selflessness. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is selfish and 10 is selfless, where are you? Let's be honest here. Seasons change but the goal is to work at improvement. You gotta LIVE right to LOVE right.

The 3rd gauge is in your level of spouse - esteem
This last gauge is sometimes overlooked by many. Phil 2:3b-4 states, "but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. [How are we to do this?] Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also but also for the interests of others."
The simplest way to explain this concept of spouse-esteem is to have you understand the concept of "two becoming one." The reality is, when you esteem your spouse your are actually esteeming yourself. It is a plain and simple as this. The opposite is also true, when you are ill treating, pulling down or talking down your spouse, you are in essence doing the same to yourself.
When you are LIVING in a way that esteems your spouse, LOVE will flow. You gotta LIVE right to LOVE right. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is little spouse- esteem and 10 is full spouse- esteem, where are you? Seasons change but the goal is to work at improvement.
Write this last # down and let's see how well you did on this. Add up the three numbers and see where you are on the LIVE right to LOVE right scale below:
0-10 : Bad living - bad loving. Emergency love surgery required!
11-16 : Below average living - below average loving. Needs Minor surgery
17-23 : Average living- average loving. Needs attention.
24-29 : Good living - good loving. You are at a good place
30 : Why you lying?
